When you sit your child down and teach them to use the scary potty for the first time you do everything in your power to make it a positive experience. Above all else, you make sure the bathroom is clean and pleasing. The last thing you want is your tyke to be scared off by trash on the floor or smells that shouldn’t be there...well...yeah be there.
By now you realize that this is yet another post involving my bathroom fetish, but it doesn’t faze me one bit. Except this time food is involved.
If you ever walked into a nice restaurant (or any other place above the level of White Castle) you would expect a clean bathroom. If the soap didn’t work or it stank like a carton of milk left out in the hot sun, you would probably walk out and take your food dollars elsewhere. That being the case, why do supermarkets get away with it?
How is it that I can walk into my local Safeway, Giant, etc and the restrooms are filthy? The toilets/urinals are broken and the lack of paper towels is just overwhelming.
These are places and employers who deal directly with the food that we eat every day. How can they possibly be that dirty? Would you buy fish if the seafood container was covered in trash? Would you buy vegetables if the smell coming from the tomatoes rivaled that of the trash dump on the hottest of July afternoons? Of course not!
The lone exception in this list of urine soaked food merchants is Trader Joe’s. TJ’s not only maintains a very clean store but a spotless bathroom too. Kudos to your Joe...keep on keepin’ on.
